The Dragon and the Turtle Go on Safari by Donita K. Paul and Evangeline Denmark is a cute book about Roger the turtle and Padraig the Dragon as they go on a camp out at Mount Sillymanborrow. They are excited about camping out all night, but as night comes, it brings some strange and scary noises. They are determined to spend the whole night outside and discover that they can help each other get past their fears to accomplish this.
I thought this was a really cute book about friendship and helping each other be strong and courageous. Buddy really enjoyed it too, but I think it was a little bit hard for the younger kids to understand. There were a few unfamiliar words and phrases. Even though there is nothing in the story about prayer or God helping them be strong and courageous, there is a short study guide in the back that includes verses and how we can encourage each other. I also found The Dragon and the Turtle and Donita K. Paul websites that have more fun to expand on the story.

Michelle... you are such an organized blogger! I love it! My most adventurous and memorable times as a kid usually involved a camping trip up in the mountains and Sean or Moose... one of my trustee horses!:)
Thank you, Michelle, for the review. And thank you for pointing your readers to www.dragonandturtle.com. We have two contests going on that end during February. You are right about the unfamiliar words and phrases. They are there to serve a purpose. At the picture book level, we aim to entertain, increase attention span, expose higher vocabulary, and practice visualization. Being read to is essential to develop the brain getting ready to read.
Happy Reading!
My favorite adventure was building castles with the dining room table and playing dress up.

I grew up in the 50s. We played Nancy Drew mystery story. Ketchup for blood, string for spider webs. It was such fun.

My favorite was the years my parents sent me away to summer camp(Camp Ondessonk)! One year I lived in a tree house and one year I lived in a cave! Gosh that was fun! I have an incredible love for camping even now because of it!

My favorite adventure when I was little was playing CHIPs (remember the show with Erik Estrada--California Highway Patrol?) while riding our bikes. We would use walkie-talkie's and write tickets. We had SO much fun!
